German Honey Bars (Traditional Christmas Honey Spice Bars)
These soft and aromatic German Honey Bars are a classic holiday treat that has been enjoyed for generations. Made with rich honey, warm spices, and a sweet vanilla glaze, they develop an even deeper flavor after a few days of resting. Ingredients
For the Honey Bars
1 cup (340 g) honey
½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter
½ cup (100 g) light brown sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2½ cups (310 g) all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground ginger
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup chopped walnuts or almonds (optional)
For the Vanilla Glaze
1½ cups powdered sugar
2–3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon melted butter (optional)

Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a slight overhang on the sides for easy removal after baking.
Step 2: Make the Honey Mixture
In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the honey, butter, and brown sugar. Stir gently until the butter melts completely and the mixture becomes smooth. Do not let it boil. Remove from the heat and allow it to cool for about 10–15 minutes.
Step 3: Add the Eggs
Once the mixture has cooled slightly, whisk in the eggs one at a time until fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract.
