Early Signs of Colon Cancer You Shouldn’t Ignore
Colon cancer, also called colorectal cancer when it involves the colon or rectum, can develop without obvious symptoms in its early stages. That is one reason regular screening is important. When symptoms do appear, they can sometimes be mistaken for common digestive problems.
Changes in Bowel Habits
One possible warning sign is a persistent change in your usual bowel habits. This may include constipation, diarrhea, narrower stools, or a feeling that your bowel has not completely emptied after using the bathroom.
A temporary change is common and does not necessarily indicate cancer. However, ongoing or unexplained changes should be discussed with a healthcare professional.
Blood in the Stool
Blood in or on the stool, rectal bleeding, or stools that appear unusually dark can have several causes. Hemorrhoids and other digestive conditions can also cause bleeding, but unexplained or persistent blood should not simply be ignored.

Abdominal Pain or Cramping
Persistent abdominal discomfort, cramping, aches, or pain can sometimes occur with colorectal cancer. These symptoms are common and can be caused by many other conditions, so they cannot be used on their own to diagnose cancer.
Unexplained Weight Loss
Losing weight without intentionally changing your diet or activity level can be a warning sign of several medical conditions, including colorectal cancer. If unexplained weight loss continues, it is important to speak with a healthcare professional.
