AI Takes a Look at the 2028 U.S. Presidential Election
The 2028 U.S. presidential election is still more than two years away, but an artificial-intelligence simulation has already sparked plenty of discussion online.
In one widely reported simulation, Grok AI was asked to model a hypothetical presidential contest between JD Vance and Kamala Harris. The result was striking: the simulation projected Vance winning the Electoral College by 326 votes to 212.
But there is an important catch: this is not a prediction of what will actually happen in 2028. It is a hypothetical scenario generated from assumptions, early polling information, political trends, and state-by-state estimates. The candidates, campaign issues, public opinion, and political environment could all change substantially before voters cast their ballots.
A Surprising Electoral Map
According to the simulation, Vance would retain the states that Donald Trump carried in 2024 and add Minnesota and New Hampshire to the Republican column. Those two states would be particularly notable because they have not traditionally been easy Republican wins in recent presidential elections.
Harris, meanwhile, was projected to hold many Democratic strongholds, including California, Washington, Hawaii, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland.
The final hypothetical map therefore produced a substantial Electoral College advantage for Vance.
