The Little Girl Who Left a Note for Her Neighbor — And Got the Sweetest Response
Sometimes, the simplest gestures can remind us just how much kindness still exists in everyday life.
That is exactly what happened when a young girl noticed a basketball hoop in her neighbor’s driveway and decided she wanted to use it.
Instead of simply walking over and playing without asking, she decided to do something that many adults could learn from.
She wrote a note.
A Simple Request
The little girl, named Emma, lived across the street from her neighbor.
She had noticed the basketball hoop outside and wanted to practice shooting some hoops after school.
She had apparently tried to catch her neighbors in person several times, hoping to ask for permission, but she kept missing them.
Rather than giving up—or simply using the hoop without permission—Emma came up with another idea.
She wrote a short handwritten note and left it for her neighbor.
Her message was simple and incredibly polite.
She introduced herself, explained where she lived, and asked whether it would be okay for her to use the basketball hoop after school on some days.
She wasn’t demanding anything.
She wasn’t assuming that the answer would be yes.
She simply asked.
The Note Was Impossible to Ignore
What made the note particularly adorable was how thoughtfully Emma had written it.
She explained that she lived across the street and politely asked whether she could shoot some basketballs after school.
It was the kind of request that could easily have been answered with a simple yes or no.
And that’s exactly what happened.
Her neighbor took the time to respond.
Instead of writing a long explanation, he simply checked “Yes” on the note.
