Pancreatic cancer is often described as a difficult disease to detect because, in its early stages, it may cause few or no noticeable symptoms. By the time clearer signs appear, the disease may already have progressed.

 

That is why doctors emphasize paying attention to unusual changes in the body—especially when several symptoms appear together or continue without an obvious explanation.

 

One possible warning sign is unexplained weight loss. Losing weight without intentionally changing your diet or activity level can have many causes, but persistent, unexplained weight loss deserves medical attention.

 

Another symptom can be loss of appetite or unusual fatigue. These changes are not specific to pancreatic cancer, but when they persist, they should not simply be ignored.

 

Changes in digestion may also occur. Some people can experience discomfort in the upper abdomen, while pain may sometimes extend toward the back. Again, these symptoms can be caused by many conditions that are not cancer.

 

One of the more recognizable signs is jaundice, which causes the skin or whites of the eyes to become yellow. It may also occur alongside dark urine or unusually light-colored stools.
