A Simple Natural Way to Ease Phlegm and Mucus
Phlegm and mucus are part of the body’s natural defense system. They help trap dust, allergens, and other irritants in the airways. However, when too much mucus builds up in the throat or chest, it can cause coughing, congestion, throat irritation, and a heavy feeling in the chest.
One traditional home remedy involves using warm steam, sometimes combined with aromatic herbs such as eucalyptus or peppermint. The idea is simple: warm, moist air may help loosen thick mucus, making it easier to clear from the airways.
How the Steam Method Works
To try a simple steam routine, prepare a bowl of comfortably hot water. If you choose to use an essential oil, only a very small amount should be added, and it should never be swallowed or applied directly inside the nose or throat.
Place the bowl on a stable surface and keep your face well away from the hot water. Breathe normally around the warm steam for a few minutes. There is no need to force deep breaths.
